Grace period before fallback (hours)

Refund-chain depth capMax number of return → store-credit → new-order → return hops allowed before we block the next return. Lower = stricter (fewer fraud loops, more legitimate gift returns may get caught). Default 3. Range 1–10.

Exchange pricing basis

How the exchange item is priced against the returned item. Default is "original paid" — never default to current price silently.

What the shopper originally paidDefault. The exchange is priced at the shopper’s original paid price. Best for trust.

Current live priceMerchant-friendly when prices rose; shopper-unfriendly when the shopper caught a sale.

Lesser of the twoShopper pays the lower of original-paid and current price. Shopper-friendly; merchant absorbs any gap.

Like-for-like swapSame SKU, no price diff calculated. Typical for size / color swaps.

Shopper bought an €80 sweater on sale, now priced €100. They exchange for a different size.

Upgrade-exchange with mid-flow payment capture is off (MVP). Exchanges that would require a top-up are rejected — the shopper is routed to refund + rebuy.
